PAINT MEDUIMS EXPLAINED |
ACRYLICS is the easiest and most exciting painting medium to use. We use the PROFESSIONAL acrylics - which is nothing like Galleria or System 3. The difference is our acrylics do NOT dry quickly but stay wet all day, have 100% lightfast pigment and 100%binder. (ALL WILL BE EXPLAINED!) Students have said what a difference it is using our acrylics!
OILS are fun but more of a "process" to learn - slow to dry but very exciting when you have learnt how to blend and use them properly.
WATERCOLOUR is a slow, controlled process of painting - you are aiming for a wonderful "translucency" of paint. You need to learn some drawing as a good watercolour is based on a good drawing. |

ACRYLICSis not the "poor man's" equivalent to oils. It is accepted as being equal to oils, now the paint is so excellent.
DRAWING To be a good artist you need to draw and draw and draw!! NOT TRUE. To be a good artist you need to know how to find "inspiration" how to "interpret" how to THINK like an artist, how to find your "mission" and LEARN TO HAVE VISION!!
COPYING IS BAD! Depends what you mean by copying. You start to learn from copying - if you copy good masters. You can learn colour balance, composition and tonal values from good and famous painters.
PAINTING IS THE SAME AS BEING A PAINTER Not true - a painter has vision, ideas and a mission. Your job as a "painter" is to give the public a new way of seeing. Just painting everything and anything is NOT the same!!

STARTER COURSE IN ACRYLICS (STAGE 1)
For beginners. Based on "landscape" painting but all tuition can be adapted to other form. |
This painting course is for beginners and your tutor paints with you. You work from a photographic inspiration and learn: how to prepare your canvas, how to use your brushes, how to mix colour, focal points, tonal values, simple composition and perspective. click for more and dates |
GET CREATIVE (STAGE 2)
For beginners and Improvers |
This painting course is in ACRYLICS and you learn: fine art composition (Golden Mean), how to "interpret", light and shade, professional painting, painting back to front and painting front to back. You can paint in oils on the 2n day (subject to some prior knowledge). click for more and dates |
DEVELOP YOUR STYLE (STAGE 3)
For Improvers, Professionals and Beginners (who want to THINK like an artist!) |
This painting course is in ACRYLICS and you learn concepts, mood boards, how to create a style, prepare your canvas, fine art composition, focal points, tonal values and the value of the brush. How to think like an artist and how to develop ideas and concepts. click for more and dates |
| OIL PAINTING (ALL LEVELS) |
OIL painting is about understanding the painting process and the "BLEND". This weekend course teaches you "Alla Prima:" painting which means "all in one go" (YOU DO not JUST SLAP PAINT ON(!) and hope for the best. WATERCOLOUR is a difficult medium but once conquered is very satisfying. We first learn some simple drawing and fine art composition. Then we teach you the 5 basic watercolour methods with some essential tips and methods of working. WATERCOLOUR is all about "MAKING THE WATER WORK" click |

WATERCOLOUR, OILS AND ACRYLICS. An exploratory weekend where you can try all three mediums and understand the mental energy and process needed for each medium. A very exciting course which gives you a great understanding into painting and lets you decide which medium is for you.
